Tim Steer: how to spot a stock disaster coming

Former Citywire AAA-rated Artemis and New Star fund manager Tim Steer believes a lot of fund managers simply do not get annual reports.

Steer, who stepped back from fund management in 2015, has written a book to help them out.

Titled the 'Signs Were There', the book tells the tale of 22 firms, including Capita, Carillion, Sports Direct and Conviviality, that suffered dramatic falls in their share prices.

Steer highlights how these firms' woes could have been spotted well in advance in their annual reports. He also illustrates the lengths companies can go to in a a bid to disguise the true state of their businesses.

Additionally Steer reveals some of the best businesses he invested in during his career.

Steer visited Citywire last week to explain why he felt the need to write the book.
