The 10 most profitable sectors in the UK

Here are the top 10 sectors of the UK economy in order of least to most profitable.

'UK PLC' describes the UK's commercial interests as an economy.

According to The Share Centre, UK PLC profits jumped 86% to £210.8 billion in the year to the end of June.

This extended the longest period of profit growth since the initial recovery following the financial crisis, according to the stockbroker.

'The increase was exaggerated by a very large one-off profit British American Tobacco made acquiring Reynolds American,' the Aylesbury-based business said.

'But even without that, profits rose 66%. Higher profits are thanks to rising revenues and cost control: revenues leapt 13.6% year-on-year.'
