Smith & Williamson signs ex-Barclays football head

Smith & Williamson has signed the former head of football at Barclays Private Bank Paul de la Salle, as it boosts its sports, media and entertainment wealth planning team.

De la Salle had most recently spent five years at specialist planner Arena Wealth where he was senior client executive.

He spent the three years up to the end of 2013 as head of football at Barclay’s Private Bank, following eight years at Barclays Wealth.

At the latter, he reportedly ‘devised the Barclays Wealth International football proposition’, according to his LinkedIn page.

He joins Smith & Willamson as an associate director.

De la Salle said: ‘I am really pleased to have joined Smith & Williamson. The team has an excellent reputation and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help the team expand across the board but particularly within the football sphere’.

The company’s specialist advice and planning team was named the best professional service business supporting football at the 2017 Football Business Awards.

Team head and Smith & Williamson private client tax partner Peter Fairchild said: ‘We are delighted that Paul has joined - he has a wealth of experience across the board for everything to do with sports, media and entertainment.  Paul’s arrival should further the momentum we have achieved over the past three years which has included growing our client base by nearly a third.’
