Savills hires former M&G property boss to head funds

Savills hires former M&G property boss to head funds

Former head of M&G Real Estate Alex Jeffrey has joined upmarket property agent and consultant Savills as its chief executive for global real estate investment.

Jeffrey (pictured) will join Savills Investment Management in late 2019 in Singapore and will also become a member of the company’s executive board.

Company chief executive Mark Ridley said: ‘I am delighted to welcome Alex as CEO of Savills IM. His experience will be instrumental in leading a strong management team to deliver our aspirations for the business over the coming years.

‘The fact he will be based in Singapore is a clear demonstration of the importance we attach to Savills’ future growth potential in the Asia Pacific region, linked to our strong UK and European platform. The board and I look forward to working with him.’

Jeffrey was most recently head of Asia Pacific at M&G, a position he had held since late 2017.

He was previously head of the company’s real estate unit, overseeing an increase in assets from £15 billion to £30 billion, having earlier served as chief investment officer and boss of MGPA Limited.

Savills has sought to develop its fee-based services in recent years and develop its global business, as it faced a long and deep downturn in its historic prime London and South East property market.

Clients poured £2.4 billion into the company’s investment service last year with total assets now standing at £16 billion, versus £2.4 billion in 2015.
