Prime Minister May to face no-confidence vote tonight

Conservative rebels have triggered the required votes for a no-confidence vote in Prime Minister Theresa May.

In a letter published this morning, the chairman of the 1922 Committee Graham Brady announced he has now received over 48 letters of no confidence in May.

This means there will be a no-confidence vote in her which will be held tonight, with the results announced after 8 p.m. this evening. If May does not win a majority of votes (158) in the confidence motion she will be forced to stand down and there will be a leadership contest within the Conservative party.

If May wins the confidence motion there cannot be another one for 12 months.

After the announcement of the vote was made Wednesday morning, some Conservative cabinet members declared their support for May.
