Q&A with Robert Race, head of wealth management, WH Ireland, Manchester
What is your typical client demographic?
We work with a broad range of clients including private individuals and their advisers, corporates, trusts and charities, where appropriate. Typically investors with an excess of £250,000 will benefit from our discretionary investment management services with regular face-to-face meetings to discuss strategy and returns, while keeping their portfolio tailored for their financial goals.
What differentiates your location?
The North West has a long history of entrepreneurship among both the business and professional services communities. There is a huge untapped potential across the region which has already become home to centres of excellence for industries, such as science. If the North of England was a country, it would be among the biggest economies in the Europe. We are proud to have had a presence in here spanning two centuries and a thorough understanding of what our local clients’ requirements are.
What challenges are facing your area?
The poor road and rail infrastructure across the North of England in particular. The Northern Powerhouse government initiative looks to address some of the challenges we face. WH Ireland is committed to Manchester and the North West. We believe we are best placed to take full advantage of the regional developments planned for the coming years.
What’s the best thing about living in your area?
Manchester has a population of over 2.5 million people which gives the city an exciting, cultural vibe. Our restaurant scene is booming with new bars and restaurants opening at a rate that rivals London. There are a plethora of thriving high quality museums, theatres and arts venues, and we’re extremely lucky to have easy access to the beautiful and unspoilt countryside nearby, such as the Peak and Lake Districts.
What’s a typical regional saying?
‘He’s not behind the door, is he?’ Meaning he’s no fool or no shrinking violet.
What is your office motto?
To build long-term relationships, based upon trust, by placing our clients’ needs at the centre of everything we do. By doing so, we are best placed to provide timely, bespoke and helpful advice to a diverse range of clients.
