Q&A with David Holmes, branch manager, Charles Stanley, Southampton:
What is your typical client demographic?
While we have a wide range of clients with different financial and investment needs, I’d say our largest group is retirees and those approaching retirement who need to plan and invest accordingly.
What differentiates your region?
We are lucky to be living and working in an area that has the beauty of the New Forest and South Downs, one of the best sailing areas of northern Europe and a thriving cruise liner port.
What challenges are facing your area?
Because the area is an attractive place to live, property demand leads to high prices. As with many areas, our ageing population also puts a strain on services such as the NHS.
What’s the best thing about living in your area?
The countryside, the sea and easy access to the City.
What’s a typical regional saying?
The friendly banter between Portsmouth and Southampton means that I have to carefully tread here but ‘Moosh’ immediately comes to mind. It means friend. You might also like to insult someone in a friendly way by calling them a ‘dimlo’!
What is your office motto?
Provide steady returns without any nasty surprises.
Bullish or bearish?
Cautiously bullish. There will always be opportunities in the stockmarket and the world of finance has become an easier place in which to trade. This means that the effect of Brexit (whether it turns out good or bad) can be better managed.
