Q&A with Lawrence Fisher,Head of investment management, BRI Wealth Management, Meriden, West Midlands (pictured below):

What is your typical client demographic?

We have a broad range of clients, from traditional private clients through to trusts, charities and corporates. Due to our bespoke nature, we do not have a ‘typical client’. Each client has their own individual needs and objectives and we structure a solution around those.

What challenges does your area face?

With many graduates favouring London, I think the West Midlands has historically struggled to attract and retain talent. We are starting to see a shift in this, according to the Office for National Statistics, 7,620 people left London to move to Birmingham last year. This figure made Birmingham the most popular destination for Londoners, which is a huge positive for the region.

What is your office motto?

Knowledge. Service. Trust.

Are you bullish or bearish?

In short, cautiously optimistic. Currently we prefer equities over bonds, and bonds over cash. We have been underweight the UK for some time favouring US, Japan and Europe. The US remains a favoured market but our sentiment towards the UK is beginning to improve as value appears. There are many reasons to be cautious, but there is genuine GDP and earnings growth supporting higher valuations.
