Newton Investment Management has hired BlackRock fund manager Andy Warwick for its real return team.
Joining at the end of July, he will report to Suzanne Hutchins (pictured) and work as co-lead portfolio manager on both the Newton and BNY Mellon real return strategies, alongside Hutchins and Aron Pataki.
Warwick spent 13 years at BlackRock and was most recently co-manager of the BlackRock Dynamic Diversified Growth fund, along with the BGF Flexible Multi-Asset, BlackRock Balanced Growth and BlackRock Balanced Managed funds.
In the three years to the end of April the Diversified Growth fund has returned 19.3% and the Balanced Managed fund 21.1%, versus peer group averages of 20.5% and 19.8% respectively.
‘The expansion of Newton IM’s real return team, with the appointment of Andy, is a strong recognition of the importance of the strategy to our business and the growth we expect from it in the UK, Irish and other markets around the world,’ said Fergus McCarthy, head of UK and Ireland intermediary distribution at BNY Mellon Investment Management.
He added: ‘With 20 years of experience running multi-asset funds, Andy will bring a highly complementary skill set to the real return team, particularly in cross-asset-class research, macro input and portfolio construction.
'He has significant experience across asset classes, including equities, fixed income, commodities, credit, volatility and alternatives.’
Newton's real return team widened its stable of funds last month with the launch of a sustainable real return fund.
