Legal & General Investment Management has hired Mirabaud UK equity manager fund Robert White as it builds up its active equity business.

White will be named a fund manager on the firm’s UK Special Situations fund, alongside Gavin Launder (pictured).

The fund has struggled in the last year, falling 15.2%, more than double the loss of IA UK All Companies benchmark.

Before joining Mirabaud in 2013, White was a senior associate within transaction services for PricewaterhouseCoopers.

‘We’re delighted to welcome Robert who will complement the team’s expertise and experience well,’ said Nick Hartley, co-head of active equities at LGIM.

‘He has typically focussed on in-depth fundamental analysis and constructed portfolios through bottom-up, stock selection throughout his investment career.’

LGIM also announced the appointments of equity analysts Stuart Briscoe and Brad Jacobs.

Briscoe will take up a role as an equity analyst to work on the firm’s UK and Europe growth portfolios, reporting to Gavin Launder.

He was previously at ICM Investment Management, where he covered emerging markets, having earlier worked at Sarasin and Henderson.

Jacobs also joins as an equity analyst and will focus on global income and real income strategies and, reporting to Nigel Masding.

He joined from Goldman Sachs where he was an associate in the investment banking division.

Rod Oscroft, co-head of active equities at LGIM, said: ‘These appointments will strengthen our expertise in equity markets globally and across the market cap.

‘We’ve seen continued demand from investors looking for actively managed, high conviction, equity strategies, especially as we move into a more volatile market environment.’
