Investec AM hires JPM's James Elliot to lead £19bn multi-asset team

Investec Asset Management has hired JP Morgan's James Elliot as head of multi-asset investment, Wealth Manager can reveal.

In the newly created role, Elliot (pictured) will oversee £19.4 billion in client assets. His remit will include oversight of the firm's existing solutions and developing new ones, reporting to the firm's co-chief executive Domenico Ferrini.

Ferrini said the appointment 'underscored' his firm's commitment to deliver 'market-leading' multi-asset investment solutions.

'James brings with him a wealth of invaluable portfolio management, product and leadership experience, which will help to take our multi-asset investment capability to the next level and allows us to compete meaningfully on a global stage,' he added.

Investec Asset Management's co-heads of multi-asset growth, Philip Saunders and Michael Spinks, and head of multi-asset income John Stopford, will retain their posts as well as their existing portfolio management responsibilities.

Elliot has 24 years' experience. At JP Morgan, he spent the last seven years in charge of the development of the firm’s international multi-asset solutions business.

He was also responsible for the global strategy and quantitative research teams, alongside all portfolio management and investment specialist teams in London and Asia.

As well as overseeing a range of outcome-oriented solutions, he was the co-founder of the JPM Global Macro suite of funds, which included the £1.5 billion JPM Global Macro Opportunities fund.

JPM last February lost the managing director and portfolio manager of its multi-asset team Talib Sheikh, who exited the firm to join Jupiter, followed by colleague Mark Richards in January.
