‘Inspirational’ JP Morgan manager Sarah Emly dies

Boards of JPMorgan Claverhouse, Elect and Income & Capital trusts praise 43-year-old fund manager for her courage and humour during period of ill health.

‘Inspirational’ JP Morgan manager Sarah Emly dies

JP Morgan fund manager Sarah Emly has died just weeks away from her 44th birthday.

A member of the UK equities team she helped run the JPMorgan Income & Capital (JPIU), JPMorgan Claverhouse (JCH) and JPMorgan Elect Managed Income (JPEI) investment trusts and the JPM UK Equity Blue Chip and JPM UK Equity & Bond Income funds.

The Citywire A-rated manager had worked for the group her entire 22-year career, initially joining Robert Fleming & Co in 1995 after graduating from the University of Bath in international management and French.

She stayed on after Fleming was bought by Chase Manhattan bank in 2000 and again after it was itself acquired by US rival JP Morgan a year later.

In recent years Emly struggled with ill health, making a brief return to work in 2016 after a nine-month absence.

A statement by the boards of the investment trusts stated their sadness at her death: ‘She battled with ill health these past few years with a courage, humour and determination that was truly inspirational.’

JPMorgan Income & Capital will continue to be managed by John Baker. Claverhouse, which she had co-managed since 2006, will continue to be run by William Meadon. Both managers will continue to look after the managed income portion of JPMorgan Elect.
