Hermes has recruited former UBS director Carina Spitzkopf as it adds to its fixed income team.
The addition of Spitzkopf, who joins as director of private debt, will bring the team's headcount to 27.
Spitzkopf had previously worked in the leveraged finance credit section of UBS from January 2016 to September 2018. Before joining UBS she worked in the debt capital markets risk division of Barclays.
She will focus on smaller company debt investment in continental Europe as the business seeks to identify alternative sources of yield.
Head of fixed income Andrew Jackson (pictured) said: 'It has been an exciting growth period for the fixed income team at Hermes.
'Carina’s appointment follows a number of new hires across the platform, including Nachu Chockalingam as a senior emerging market debt portfolio manager in the liquid credit space.
'Last year also saw us expand our product range with a number of new launches, including the European Direct Lending fund, where Carina’s knowledge of market dynamics will support an already skilled team.'
Head of private debt and CLOs Patrick Marshall said Spitzkopf will be invaluable in the company's attempt to exploit the German market.
Marshall said: 'We are excited to welcome Carina to the team. She brings deep experience of the German SME loan market, which will be instrumental in our growth story this year, as we see ever-increasing deal flow coming out of Germany.
'Similarly, her understanding of structuring deals will be a valuable asset as we continue to grow our private debt platform and look to successfully tap the expanding opportunities in UK and European direct lending.'
