Lesley Cairney has joined Artemis Fund Managers as chief operating officer four months after leaving Henderson Global Investors.

Cairney exited Henderson back in December after almost 14 years as COO at the firm.

After a short break she has taken up a similar role at Artemis, where she will oversee the firm’s ongoing development in the UK marketplace.

Her appointment comes after the promotion of Artemis’ Mark Murray – who had been COO since 2001 – to senior partner in the wake of co-founder Mark Tyndall stepping back into a non-executive role in April last year.

Although Tyndall took the decision to move out of the limelight, he retained a substantial stake in the firm.

John Dodd subsequently became Artemis chairman, replacing Hamish Grossart, alongside keeping hold of the reins on his Artemis Alpha investment trust and Artemis Global Energy fund.

Artemis scored a major coup last year with the capture of star fund manager Ed Legget from Standard Life Investments. Upon joining the firm in December, Legget was handed control of the Artemis UK Select fund, previously managed by Tim Steer.
