Former BMO Global Asset Management head of UK equities Peter Lees (pictured) has joined Stifel Nicolaus Europe as managing director.
Lees exited BMO, formerly known as F&C, in February 2015 after nine years.
He has joined Stifel’s corporate broking team, with a focus on growth businesses.
Prior to his departure, he managed the F&C UK Alpha fund, which saw three years of underperformance under his tenure.
At the time of his exit, over three years the fund returned 21.2% versus 48.2% by the average manager in the UK all companies sector. Michael Ulrich, who took over the fund with co-manager Tom Wilson, also left F&C two months after Lees.
He was also the co-manager on the F&C Global Thematic Opportunities fund. Prior to F&C, he was head of equities at Deutsche Asset Management.
In 2014, Stifel acquired London-based Oriel Securities and consolidated its London-based businesses under Stifel Nicolaus Europe as part of its expansion strategy in Europe.
