Fledgling Scottish private office hires Alliance Trust veteran

Two-year old Edinburgh-based private office North Capital Management has bolstered its ranks with the hire of George Renouf from Alliance Trust.

Renouf (pictured) has joined the firm as head of investment, responsible for further developing the firm’s proposition.

He spent 10 years at Alliance Trust as head of investment strategy focusing on investment risk, strategic and tactical asset allocation, as well as regulatory oversight of investment products.

He also held a number of external roles and sat on several advisory groups, including The City UK, Scottish Financial Enterprise
and the Investment Association. He has also been on the prime minister’s advisory committee on issues such as the Scottish independence referendum and Brexit.

Brian O’Connor, managing director, commented: ‘We are absolutely delighted to welcome George to the team at North Capital. Our business is at an exciting and critical stage of its development so it is fantastic that we have been able to attract someone of George’s experience and knowledge to our business.’

Renouf added: ‘Hopefully my experience of actively managing client assets over many years and across multiple asset classes will enhance the process, performance and philosophy of our offering. It is extremely exciting to be joining the firm at this time.

‘It has been very refreshing to find a team that fundamentally believes in delivering positive investment outcomes through a truly independent and bespoke offering. Lots of firms say this but few have the independence of thought and an investment philosophy to match the high level of client expectations.’

North Capital was set up by O’Connor and Angus Jack in February 2016 after the pair left UBS Wealth Management.

The company does not disclose assets under management or client numbers, but it targets clients with between £10 million to £100 million, offering bespoke portfolios.

Renouf’s hire follows the appointment of two analysts, Katie MacRaild and Daniel Brawley, last year.
