FCA appoints new consumer panel chair

FCA appoints new consumer panel chair

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has appointed Wanda Goldwag to lead the Financial Services Consumer Panel.

Goldwag, who currently chairs the Legal Ombudsman, will succeed Sue Lewis in the role at the head of the FCA's independent consumer group.

As chair of the panel, Goldwag will represent the views of consumers to the regulator, including responses to ongoing consultations. This will also involve meetings with senior FCA staff.

The panel can influence the direction of regulation, including rules about financial advice. Under Lewis the panel highlighted concerns about banks entering robo-advice, and criticised some providers' financial guidance services.

'The panel plays a significant part in ensuring the FCA meets its objectives – and particularly to secure an appropriate degree of protection for consumers – and I’m looking forward to meeting regularly with the chair and chief executive of the FCA to promote consumer interests,' Goldwag said.

'Sue Lewis was a very strong consumer champion and will be a hard act to follow. But I am excited about the challenge of exerting influence on the future shape of financial conduct regulation in the UK.'
