Close Bros hires wealth director for Scotland push

Close Brothers Asset Management (CBAM) has appointed Bruce Saunderson as director of wealth structuring in a move designed to strengthen its proposition in Scotland.

Saunderson joins the firm’s Glasgow office after six years in PwC’s regulated advice team, which was recently acquired by Tilney.

Before that he was senior manager at wealth advisory firm Grant Thornton and a director of wealth management at Maclay Murray & Spens.

Saunderson will be responsible for delivering Close Brothers’ wealth structuring proposition, as well as bolstering its Scottish advisory team.

Commenting on his appointment, Saunderson said: ‘The flexibility of CBAM’s investment proposition stood out for me against the competition and the role fits my expertise of working with high net worth individuals and families, providing truly bespoke services.’

Andy Cumming, head of advice at Close Brothers, said: ‘We are very pleased to welcome Bruce to our CBAM Glasgow office.

‘His knowledge and years of experience in wealth management and financial planning mean he will be a strong asset to our business in Scotland as we continue to grow in the region.’

In May, Close Brothers acquired Coventry-based IFA Adrian Smith & Partners, establishing a presence in the Midlands.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, has expanded the company’s regional footprint in an area previously identified by chief executive Martin Andrew (pictured) as a gap.
