Brooks boss joins IA board alongside three fund heavyweights

Four investment heavyweights including the new boss of Brooks Macdonald have joined the board of the Investment Association (IA).

Brook Macdonald chief executive Caroline Connellan (pictured) was appointed alongide Columbia Threadneedle' Michelle Scrimgeour, Newton CEO Hanneke Smits, and JP Morgan Asset Management's Dan Watkins

The appointments near-double the number of women at the top of the UK's asset management trade body to 40%.

IA chief executive Chris Cummings said: ‘The board of directors sits at the heart of the IA and it is essential that we have a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives around the table.

‘We know that firms with diverse management teams make better decisions, so I am particularly pleased that we have been able to increase the diversity of our Board with these four new appointments.’

Connellan joined Brooks as CEO last year from HSBC, where she was head of UK wealth. Starting her career as a fund manager at Newton, she has also worked as a consultant at McKinsey.

Scrimgeour joined Columbia Threadneedle as head of Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) in 2017. She previously held the role of chief risk officer at M&G Investments and worked at BlackRock, rising to become a member of its European Executive Committee.

Smits joined Newton as CEO in 2016 having previously held the role of chief investment officer at private equity firm Adams Street Partners.

Watkins is JP Morgan Asset Management's chief operating officer for EMEA, and has worked at the firm since 1997.
