Barclays Wealth shakes up regions as it hires new boss

Barclays Wealth Management has hired a new regional head to lead its operations outside of London and the south east of England.

Graham Nicoll joins the bank from KPMG and will serve as head of growth in a newly-merged team covering the Midlands, north and west of the UK.

Nicoll joined the accountant in 2015 as managing director for the UK outside London and the south east. He spent the previous eight years as regional head of mid-cap corporate banking at Barclays, and has also spent time in the bank's wealth and stockbroking divisions.

The appointment follows a number of departures from Barclays' regional network over the last year.

Julius Baer poached nine wealth and relationship managers, including regional directors Gordon Scott and Martin Cuthbert.

In his new role, Nicoll will also cover Scotland and Northern Ireland.

Andrew Houston (pictured), head of Barclays Wealth Management, said: 'I am delighted to welcome Graham back into the wealth management leadership team.

'Graham’s reappointment demonstrates the strength of our culture at Barclays, and his notable industry knowledge and experience will prove invaluable as we continue to strengthen both our leadership and advisory teams across the whole of the UK.'

There have been a number of changes at Barclays in recent months. Earlier in July, Barclays Savings, Investments & Wealth Management chief executive Dena Brumpton announced that she would be retiring.

She will be replaced by Dirk Klee in September, formerly chief operating officer at UBS.
