Barclays wealth CIO steps down amid restructure

Barclays wealth CIO steps down amid restructure

Barclays Investment Solutions chief investment officer Arne Hassel has stepped down from his role, Wealth Manager sister title Citywire Selector has learned.

A spokesperson for the business said Hassel would remain at Barclays but has relinquished his previous responsibilities.

The CIO role is currently assigned to William Hobbs, who most recently was the firm’s head of investment strategy.

The business was unable to confirm Hassel’s next move. However, it is understood that the change is connected to a wider restructuring within Barclays' Investment Solutions division, as the bank aligns the team to be more scalable for its distribution channels across the UK.

Hassel has held the role of CIO since September 2015, when he joined the firm from Coutts, where he was head of investment.

The asset allocator featured as a Citywire Selector cover star in 2018, when he explained how he contibuted to building up the CIO office at Barclays.
