Barclays rehires HSBC director for Scots regional wealth push

Barclays rehires HSBC director for Scots regional wealth push

Chris Arbuthnott, a former director of HSBC Private Bank’s Aberdeen office, has rejoined Barclays Wealth Management.

Arbuthnott joins Barclays’ Edinburgh office as a director of wealth management. Prior to HSBC, he worked as a vice president of private banking at Barclays between 2011 and 2014.

John Godfrey, a director at Barclays Wealth Management in Scotland, said: ‘This latest hire underlines our continued commitment to the Scottish market. Chris is joining at an exciting time for Barclays in Scotland, with our client base and team continuing to show strong growth.’

In the summer, Barclays recruited KPMG’s Graham Nicoll to lead its operations outside of London and the south-east of England.

The appointment followed a raft of departures across Barclays’ regional network over the past year.

Julius Baer alone poached nine wealth and relationship managers, including regional directors Gordon Scott and Martin Cuthbert.

Meanwhile, Barclays Savings, Investments & Wealth Management chief executive Dena Brumpton has been replaced by Dirk Klee, formerly chief operating officer at UBS, after Brumpton retired.
