Arbuthnot poaches Coutts private banker for Manchester arm

Arbuthnot Latham has hired Coutts senior private banker Barry Grieve for its Manchester office.

Grieve, who has spent the past six years as private banker, was a director for Coutts in Manchester. Prior to this, he was head of private bank operations at RBS and has also held roles at NatWest.

His appointment follows the departure of former Manchester head Nick Cringle, who left after three years in the job to join Brown Shipley as its first north west regional boss.

Commenting on the hire, Manchester office head Andy Broughton said: 'It is a strong testament to Arbuthnot’s commitment to the region that we have been able to attract such a high calibre individual and we look forward to working with him as we continue to build out our growing regional business footprint.'

The appointment is part of the firm's plan to grow in the North West as well as in Bristol and Exeter.

In July 2018, the bank reported client assets of £1.07 billion and a 10% rise in profits to £5.4 million.

Last month, it promoted director Chris Reah, also an ex-Coutts man, to head its regional strategy outside London.
