Allianz Global Investors has hired emerging market (EM) strategist Nicolas Jaquier from Standard Life Investments.
Jaquier follows his old boss at Standard Life, Richard House (pictured), to AllianzGI after the latter joined the firm in June as chief investment officer for emerging market debt.
It’s the third time in Jaquier’s career he has followed House, having also worked with him at Threadneedle Investments between 2010 and 2012.
Based in London, he will report into House.
In his role, Jaquier will be responsible for EM sovereign research, as well as conducting macroeconomic analysis of emerging economies and generating investment strategies across the EM debt asset class.
The hire comes after AllianzGI launched a fixed income macro fund for its UK bond manager Kacper Brzezniak.
A deputy on Citywire A-rated manager Mike Riddell’s two funds since joining in 2016, Brzezniak has been given his own fund to manage with Riddell his deputy on this one.
The fund will be a global absolute return fixed income fund aimed at the UK market, and it will also be supported by Ryan Chin, a multi asset portfolio manager based in the US.
The UK Oeic fund aims to outperform cash by 4-6% a year gross of fees through all market cycles, regardless of the direction of interest rates, credit or equities.
The launch this month comes after Wealth Manager reported in September last year that AllianzGI was considering launching an absolute return bond fund for Brzezniak.
AllianzGI also launched an index-linked gilt fund for Riddell in February, as revealed by Wealth Manager.
