A-rated bond manager to retire from MFS

Citywire A-rated Richard Hawkins is to retire from fund manager on June 30 and step down from several funds at MFS Investment Management.

Hawkins, who joined the Boston-based group in 1988, will relinquish his roles on the MFS Meridian Funds - US Corporate Bond and MFS Meridian Funds Global Opportunistic Bond funds, along with two US-domiciled approaches.

Hawkins was one of three managers who oversaw the launch of the Global Opportunistic Bond fund in 2016, which was alongside Pilar Gomez-Bravo and Robert Spector. It has $103 million in assets.

Meanwhile, he has run the US Corporate Bond fund, which has $303 million in assets, with Bob Persons and Alexander Mackey since its respective launch in February 2013.

It is understood Hawkins’ existing co-managers will remain in place with the investment philosophies staying the same.
