US-based hedge fund business Schonfeld has established a branch in London.
An executive from the firm, which began as a family office headed by its multi-billionaire CEO, Steven Schonfeld, said that it had hired two portfolio managers for the new office: Alex Codrington and Russell Hartley.
The pair are listed on the FCA register as previously holding the function of partner at hedge fund BlueCrest Capital Management from 2014, with both also having previously worked for Japanese asset manager Nomura.
On 19 November, they were both appointed as members of Schonfeld Strategic Advisors LLP, with a service address in the West End’s Jermyn Street.
The company was incorporated on 10 January 2018, when it was registered to the office of law firm Simmons & Simmons in the Citypoint building in Ropemaker Street.
The firm’s focus is on quantitative investment strategies with a credit focus, and, according to its website, it managed an aggregate gross market value in excess of $20 billion (£15.5 billion) as of April.
A spokesperson told Wealth Manager: 'Schonfeld Strategic Advisors (SSA) has opened a London office for the purposes of establishing and growing a physical presence in Europe.
'The London office currently consists of one portfolio management team employing a fundamental equity strategy, including two-portfolio managers and analysts, as well as business development, operations, technology and HR functions to support the company’s further expansion in Europe. Between employed and affiliated, Schonfeld-office based and remote, SSA invests with 6 portfolio management teams across Europe; 19 outside of the U.S. and 66 globally.'
