Managed by

Rod Oscroft

Rod Oscroft has a simple mission in his working life – to ‘buy good companies cheaply’ for the Legal & General UK Small Companies Trust. He does this through a bottom-up approach to portfolio construction based on in-house research and extensive access to company management. Oscroft has been running the fund since July 2001 and also looks after a similar amount of institutional money. He joined L&G in October 2000 after five years with Hermes Investment Management where he specialised in small company research. Before that he worked in the transport asset rental industry. An economics graduate from Cambridge, he enjoys playing rugby, fives and golf when not picking stocks.

Objective

To provide growth. The fund will typically invest between 90% and 100% in company shares from a small number of UK companies. The fund will invest in smaller and medium sized companies and also larger sized companies which form part of the FTSE All-Share, Fledgling and Alternative Investment Market (AIM) indices of shares. These indices consist of shares of a variety of UK companies representing all economic sectors.
