Webb: I was not reassured after 1825 bought my IFA

After Standard Life's consolidator arm 1825 bought out his financial adviser, Steve Webb reveals his concerns about restricted advice and product recommendations.

It is a twist that is almost too perfect.

Former pensions minister Steve Webb has lots to say about pensions, investments and advice, but he may have been a little surprised to learn that Standard Life's consolidator advice arm 1825 had bought his own financial adviser out!

His IFA, Bristol-based Fraser Heath, was acquired by 1825 last October.

Webb, who sought financial advice over a year ago to get an 'MOT' of his personal finances, already had a relationship with the firm.

While still an MP, he cut the ribbon at the firm's opening ceremony.

We had the chance to ask Webb about this when we interviewed him for our pension freedoms MOT video series, and he revealed that he had had 'a chat' with the firm about its disappearing independence.

You can watch the video in full above.
