According to Fobes, the top 100 best paid athletes across the globle took home a massive $3.8 billion (£2.84 billion) between them in the 12 months to the start of June.

This represents a 23% increase on the previous year and serves as a remind of the potential rewards on offer as the world's top footballers prepare for the Russia World cup.

Athletes from 11 sports and 23 countries made the cut, which takes into account salaries, bonuses, prize money, endorsements, licensing and appearance fees.
