Stephen Ford joins WH Ireland as head of wealth

WH Ireland has hired Stephen Ford to head its wealth management division.

Ford has spent the last two years as an executive director of City Asset Management, where he oversaw a restructure of both its investment process and distribution strategy.

He is best known for his 16 year stint at Brewin Dolphin, where he served as head of its London office and latterly head of wealth and investment management, before leaving in 2016.

His hire comes after WH Ireland’s previous head of wealth management, Roddy Buchanan, left over a difference of opinion over the firm’s business strategy in July.

Commenting on Ford’s appointment CEO Phillip Wale (pictured), who joined teh company in August, said: ‘Appointing someone of Stephen's calibre to the role of head of wealth management represents an exciting step for the company as we continue along our path towards profitability and growing both of our businesses. I look forward to working with Stephen as we invest in, develop and grow the wealth management proposition at WH Ireland.’

Ford added: ‘I am looking forward to growing the wealth management franchise at WH Ireland and believe that there is real opportunity for the division to continue to grow and thrive.'

WH Ireland’s shares were up 3.57%, or 2.12p, to 61.62p on the news. The company’s share price has taken a beating this year, nearly halving after a couple of profit warnings and rights issues, as it grapples with restructuring problems.

The latest fundraising, in September, secured £2 million as M&G Recovery fund manager Tom Dobell took a 12% stake in the business.
