Schroders offers helpline to CISI mentoring scheme

Schroders has offered its support to the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI’s) financial planning mentoring scheme by providing a helpline for scheme mentees and mentors.

Support of the financial planning body marks another move by Schroders into advice. In November last year, the firm also revealed its new partnership with Lloyds, aiming to be in the top three financial advice businesses for assets in the next five years.

The CISI scheme was launched on 1 January 2019 with the aim of supporting financial planners to achieve their professional goals.

Mentors are all professionals in their field and hold the certified financial planner designation. Mentees must be members of both the CISI and its Financial Planning Forum.

CISI head of financial planning Jacqueline Lockie said having Schroders’ support will help planners navigate the world of investments and platforms.

‘The list of queries Schroders can help answer is wide-ranging; from investment dealing, platforms, business consolidation and even human resources-related issues,’ Lockie said.

‘By offering to provide those on the mentoring scheme with specialist help that might otherwise be hard or time-consuming to find, Schroders offers a tangible benefit for those taking the time to participate in the scheme and grow the profession.’

Schroders head of UK intermediary business, Phil Middleton, said: ‘Financial planning continues to be a very important profession for those wishing to seek financial advice and it is one which, over the past few years, has been under increasing pressure.

‘Our business has a wide-ranging set of skills and knowledge, which I am hoping we can share and collaborate, through this mentoring programme with the CISI.’

The scheme is free to join and a full structure is available to establish mentees’ goals and support them on the way to achieving them, the CISI said. Interested planners are able to apply to the mentor or mentee roles on the CISI’s website.
