Brighton striker Glenn Murray and his wife have been arrested over an alleged £1.1 million tax fraud, according to reports.

Brighton striker Glenn Murray (pictured) and his wife Stacey have been arrested over an alleged £1.1 million tax fraud.

According to reports, the couple were arrested after HM Revenues & Customs searched the couple’s home earlier this week. They have since been released.

Computers, business and personal records were seized in the search. 

‘A husband and wife have been arrested as part of an HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) investigation into a suspected £1.1 million tax fraud,’ a HMRC spokesperson

‘HMRC officers arrested the man and woman at a residential property in Brighton on Tuesday morning (23rd January 2018).

'The man was arrested on suspicion of evading income tax and VAT, and cheating the public revenue. The woman was arrested on suspicion of evading income tax, and cheating the public revenue. 

‘The property was searched by HMRC investigators. Computers, business and personal records were seized during the operation. The couple were interviewed by HMRC and have both been released under investigation. Investigations are ongoing.’

Murray, 34, is Brighton’s top goal scorer this season with seven goals. Prior to Brighton he had spells with Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.
