Pension freedom on trial: 'on balance I'd defend it'

Ollie Smith is joined by former BlackRock head of UK retail Tony Stenning to examine the great British love affair with retirement, and asks: if the freedoms were in the dock, would he back the case for the prosecution or defence?

Pension freedom on trial: 'on balance I'd defend it'

There is no denying it. Britain is still in love with the concept of retirement.

It dominates the headlines, and occupies hundreds of column inches in all the money pages (our own magazines included). There is even an index on Twitter that displays how often pensions are mentioned on the front of the Daily Express!

But is that particular love affair on the rocks?

In this week's podcast, Ollie Smith is joined by former BlackRock head of UK retail Tony Stenning to look at the current state of British retirement. Between them, they come to some worrying conclusions about what may or may not befall pensioners in the years to come.

Stenning was asked if the pension freedoms were on trial, 'are you on the defence or the prosecution?'

'On balance I would probably defend it, probably,' Stenning said.
