Overseas advice firm targets expats with DB scheme drive

Overseas specialist advice firm Montfort International has launched a new venture for members of defined benefit (DB) schemes who are moving abroad.

Montfort Consult is run by pensions consultant Jonathon Webb, who joined Montfort in late 2017. He previously worked on enhanced transfer value exercises for DB schemes at JLT.

It is currently in talks with a number of corporate employee benefits firms about referring members of DB schemes who are expats or are looking to move overseas.

Webb (pictured) said these overseas members are very often overlooked by trustees and corporate advisers. He said they are often viewed as too difficult to deal with but are vulnerable to scammers.

‘We would like to be engaged by the corporate advisers and trustees,’ said Webb, ‘so that say [national advice firms] LEBC or Lighthouse can deal with the UK-based members. But Montfort should be dealing with the overseas members, because we have the required skill set and the regulatory passports.’
