Mazars' Thursfield flies flag for female IFAs with award win

Women are making progress in the financial planning profession. One 27-year-old CF30 holder has furthered the cause by winning a top prize.

Laura Thursfield (pictured), private client financial planner at Mazars, was named the 18th annual Birmingham young professional of the year.

‘It is important they have recognised a woman in financial planning,’ she said. ‘I would love to use this award to encourage other women in our profession to push forward for advice, or more senior, roles.’

The awards, hosted by professional network BPS Birmingham Futures, took place in May at the second city’s International Convention Centre. It was open to people aged 35 and under who work in professional industries such as finance, law and technology.

‘Birmingham has just recognised an IFA as the best professional of the year ahead of the established professions,’ Thursfield said. ‘This is a huge moment for the future of financial planning; it is a big step forward for the credibility of our profession in the eyes of the Birmingham professional community. Over the next year I will strive to make a real difference to the financial education of my city.’

Award judge Victoria Ball, BPS Birmingham Future chair, said: ‘On judging day, Laura’s enthusiasm and passion for our city, along with her humble approach, really shone through.’
