Leicester IFA reaches chartered status in a month

Leicester-based Hunter Aitkenhead & Walker has its eye firmly on the future, enlisting a marketing agency and catapulting a new hire to chartered status within a month.

With the subject of succession planning high on the agenda for some IFA firms, managing director Jim Aitkenhead is looking at his 10-year retirement plan. According to director Alasdair Walker (pictured), Aitkenhead wants to grow the business so three advisers can buy it from him in an earn-out arrangement.

He said: ‘To put that succession plan in place, we’ve identified what we need to do: to hire other talented advisers and grow the business. We are trying to put a strategy in place.

‘This involved hiring our firm’s long-time compliance consultant Rob Handford as a financial adviser, handling both compliance and advice.’

Proving he was up to the firm’s chartered standards, Handford completed all five diploma and advanced diploma exams within a month.

The firm has also partnered with a marketing agency in a bid to grow its brand and aid its expansion plans.
