'How can you sleep at night owning these shares?' CEO Tapes

Do not miss the first two minutes of this film as Richard Buxton reveals how he was challenged by a client for owning shares in a certain company.

Do not miss the first two minutes of this film. It starts with a bombshell from Richard Buxton, chief executive of Old Mutual Global Investors, who says he has been challenged by one of his clients for owning shares in a company where Martin Gilbert, chief executive of Aberdeen Standard Investments, is a non-executive director.

Though no one actually says the G word, it is clear what they are referring to.

And we thought this was going to be a sedate chat about the merits of ESG investing!

(NB: This tape was filmed before the recent announcement that Gilbert was taking a break from his non-executive duties at Glencore to focus on his non-exec duties at Sky).

The eight participants were:

Andrew Formica, co-chief executive, Janus Henderson Investors

Andrew Telfer, joint senior partner, Baillie Gifford

Martin Gilbert, co-chief executive, Standard Life Aberdeen

Saker Nusseibeh, chief executive, Hermes Investment Management

Richard Buxton, chief executive, Old Mutual Global Investors

Robert Higginbotham, head of global investment services, T Rowe Price

Robert Fairbairn, senior managing director, BlackRock

Frédéric Janbon, chief executive, BNP Paribas Asset Management

How to explain value of advice to clients under Mifid II

Under Mifid II rules, advisers will have to disclose costs and charges in full, separated clearly on an annual basis, issuing each and every client with a comprehensive financial statement. So how do advisers articulate their value?
