Nearly 50 firms have signed up to offer free one-hour consultations as part of the annual Financial Planning Wekk organised by the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).
The annual event seeks to expose consumers to the process of financial planning and increase awareness about what is available to them. It was first created by the Institute of Financial Planning, which merged with the CISI in 2015.
This year Financial Planning Week will run from 8 May to 12 May.
Firms will offer free one hour consultation surgeries, either in person or via Skype or phone, along with 'Ask a Planner' online session and talks to schools across the country.
The CISI is now promoting the week to the public to encourage people to take up the free sessions.
Martin Bamford (pictured), managing director of Surrey-based Informed Choice, said offering free consultations helped promote planning to a wider audience.
'The best way to share the benefits of financial planning is to talk about the work we are doing with clients on a daily basis, changing lives and helping achieve long-held goals,' he said.
'Throughout the week commencing 8 May we’ll be writing, podcasting and making videos about various aspects of financial planning, which we hope will be shared with a wide audience and encourage readers, listeners and viewers to take positive action.'
