Aviva UK life boss Briggs exits

Aviva's UK life chief executive Andy Briggs will leave the company in October.

Briggs (pictured) was chief executive of life company Friends Life when it was acquired by Aviva in 2015. He remained with the business following the acquisition.

When former Aviva chief Mark Wilson left the company last year Briggs was tipped by some to succeed him. However Aviva eventually appointed its international insurance chief Maurice Tulloch to the position in March.

Following Briggs' depature Tulloch will review how the UK business is managed. In the interim period Aviva's group chief risk officer Angela Darlington will be in charge of the company's UK life arm.

Tulloch said Briggs 'will be missed' by Aviva following his departure. 'Aviva has benefited enormously from his extensive industry experience and his integrity and we wish him well for the future,' he said.

Briggs is one of a number of senior staff to have left Aviva over the last 12 months. As well as Wilson, platform boss Tim Orton departed at the start of 2019 following a year of technical difficulties prompted by technology change on Aviva's wrap.

When the new technology was first launched at the start of 2018 Briggs apologised to advisers and their clients about problems caused by the relaunch.
