Hans Rosling, who died aged 68 last week, was the closest thing statisticians had to a rock star, according to the Financial Times.
Watching this video he recorded with Citywire in Copenhagen in 2012 you can see why. In it the professor of international health at the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm used coffee cups to offer a simple yet powerful explanation of global population growth, ageing and emerging markets.
If you’d like to know more about Rosling, you can read Amy Maxwell’s profile of him on Citywire’s Modern Investor website.
You can also watch his most famous talk, ‘The Best Stats You’ve Ever Seen’, which he gave at the TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conference in 2006. It exemplifies the optimism and clarity of this pioneering data enthusiast.
